Nocturnal, WHYYYYYYYYYY am I still awake?

Pinterest Recipes: PASS and FAIL
I collect lots of yummy, healthy recipes from Pinterest. It makes me feel like I'm a healthy eater, a dieter and a lover of earthy natural foods.... but have I tried any of them? NOPE. So I decided this week to try a few recipes because they look soooo good and all of the blogs have raving comments, "Oh your food is the best!", "My husband loved this meal! Will make again soon!", "The ONLY way I can get my kids to eat their veggies!"....etc.
First I tried Kale Chips
They Passed the test. Dan would even eat them. Charlie liked them but they are soooo delicate, airy and crispy that he would crunch them like "Lennie Small" when he picked them up and there would be tiny green speckles everywhere. If I were to post a comment on a cooking blog, it would say, "Yay, my whole family loved these! My kid ate greens blah, blah, blah!"
Recipe:
One bunch of Kale of your choice
Olive Oil
Sea Salt
Garlic Powder (Optional..I added this for some extra flavor to mask the Kale taste but it wasn't needed)
After you have rinsed and removed any thick stems (I think of it like de-boning?) dry your Kale off and spread it on a pan. Spray or brush with Olive oil. Sprinkle a small amount of sea salt and/or seasoning of choice.
Bake on 350 for 10-15 minutes or until edges have slightly tanned but not burnt. If you take it out and any of the leaves are flimsy, put them back in for a few minutes. They should be very light and crispy, and yummy too. No dipping sauces for these though, they're way too delicate for that.
Now for the FAIL!! Baked Vegetarian Eggrolls. I made these for Dan when I wasn't going to be home so that he could just pop em in the oven. Slaved in the kitchen for an hour and a half making the filling (which was actually yummy) wrapped and placed them on a cookie sheet all ready for him. I thought it was a nice thing to do since I was going shopping. Next thing I know, I get a call, "Where are you?" Uh oh. I could tell what was coming next..."Thanks for making these but...they're weird. Like soggy and undercooked, but over cooked too. And only one side turned brown, even though I rotated them." etc. He wanted me to pick up Jack in the Box instead. When I got home I took a bite of one and wanted to barf, I threw them straight into the trash. BLEH!!! Sorry but you can not bake eggrolls. The wrap tasted like an uncooked spaghetti noodle. Crunchy as in stale not as in crisp.And they were soggy and just plain nasty. Followed the directions step by step. Now I'm hesitant to make any more of the recipes with the yummy pics on Pinterest. Maybe in a few weeks.

Happy Birthday Friend
Charlie's bff had a birthday. JeNae did such a good job decorating and even made these hats. At least they kept them on long enough for a future picture to hang in their college dorm room. Look at these 2 happy fellas.

Weirdos

We got a season pass this year and went a lot in the fall. The bub was waving at the characters and loving the parades.
CHRISTMAS VACATION BEACH DAY
At least one of us has been sick for I think it's going on 23 days, but one day I was so over it and in denial that I went to the beach with my family. The little guy was content playing in the sand until he saw the water, then we couldn't get him out of it. It was fun to watch his fearlessness of the waves as he ran screaming towards the ocean every chance he got but I think I am in trouble with this one. He's extreme. His new BFF is his cousin Ava. She showed him how to dig and drink a capri sun (his first and last...maybe).
HALLOWEEN
Trunk or Treat. I was a rancher, Dan was a sweet lover of America that everyone kept mistaking for a Vietnam Vet and the baby was a chicky. Everyone kept saying how cute "she" was. When I took him trick or treating to the houses in the neighborhood he would run up up to the door, I would hold him up and knock and when they came to the door he would clap. He had never tried candy but prying those fun crinkly things he was holding out of his hands to put in the sac was like trying to take a bone away from a hungry dog. FYI "It's Like Taking Candy from a Baby" takes on a whole new meaning now.

It's a WT Dream Vacation
I am so excited for my next little getaway that I can't keep it inside any longer. There are only a handful of people that would want to stay where we are staying and go where we are going. Lucky for me one of them happens to be a very good friend.

LOOOOOOOOONG overdue pics from Utah
Went to Utah to visit The James/Bentley Duos waaaaaaaaayyyyyy back in September. Their houses and yards were awesome, I managed to get pics of Chels and Adam's. Didn't have my camera for Cub and Amanda's house and yard....think hammocks, chickens, apple trees and a unique home with lots of odd nooks and crannys. All of the houses in Utah are on so much land compared to Southern California. We were jealous.
We stayed at Adam and Chelsea's house.
These ones are from inside the house one day. Lulu must have been taking a nap.
One day we decided to go on a long hike then go camping. I was really nervous about it because I've seen pictures from the girls' blogs that showed them crossing a log over a raging river with the babies on their backs. No thanks. I told them that's where we would turn around. Instead we stopped early because the sun was going down and everyone wanted to play in the lake. YESSSSSSSS.
Don't let Dan's baby backpack fool you. This picture was from the parking lot which is the only place I had my camera for the hike. I actually wore the backpack for the hike.
And the trooper.... pregnant with twins, sick as a dog, hiking with a 2 year old on her back.
The lake was pretty from a far but slimy around the edges so everyone started playing with babies and cameras instead.
Camping....hee hee. Now that I think about it, they may never want us to come back because they are all so hardcore and we were a few sticks in the mud. We really wanted to go for the food, fun and campfire, but the little one is a horrible sleeper still so we weren't so sure it would work. But seriously.... 4 babies and camping, RISKY. We put our best effort in but Buds woke up 2 times so we peaced out. We stayed the entire night before everyone was getting ready for bed then took off with Adam and Chels around midnight. Oh yeah and there were "Beware of Bears" signs everywhere. I spilled Ketchup all over my sweatshirt and pants, that would have been no bueno, especially since they didn't even want you to have deodorant or toothpaste in your tents.
And now for the backyard adventure. I'm too lazy to put all of these in order. Basically we saw a buck and Adam, Dan, and I took Charlie and followed it all over the property. You'll see it here and there. In the distance we heard their kitty meow, we saw it bouncing over the brush every 2 feet like a rabbit. Eventually it caught up with us and followed us everywhere we went...by the awesome little spring that Charlie played in once (which becomes a raging river in the Spring ...I think), through the brush and even into the neighbors yards as we walked along the river. I'm a sucker for cats! ANYWAYS... back to the yard, there was no brush too thick for Adam to conquer...Dan and I on the other hand took a few roundabout paths. :)
Here are a few of my favs from the trip that I was saving because I didn't know if I would use them in a Christmas card but as usual, I couldn't get it together on time.
And lastly....some pictures I stole from Amanda. Thanks to my talented Photographer friend! If you look at her former post from the same day you can see lots of pictures that we took at the same time from different perspectives. It's kind of cool.
